What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Within the film industry, there are distributors and institutions that help develop and actually produce films to around the world, or specific areas. Distributors will get the produced version of the film, basically the final version and will proceed to distribute the form of media to companies who will give support and financial backing for the film, such as promotion and marketing.

With my project being on the smaller side, and not having much of  backing, if any backing at all, I'd need to find a distribution company which targets ad supports films of the smaller scale which possess smaller budgets. Smaller budget films can still gross a high amount of revenue for the distribution company and the film makers them selves, as 'Paranormal Activity' has shown that with a budget of an unbelievably small $15,000, it grossed over $190 million dollars around the world. Put into context, this shows that even with a small budget, films can easily gross an extortionate amount of money and be successful with both the box office and critics alike.

With this in mind, it gives me and other small budget film makers the optimism and belief that no matter the size of the budget for the film, here is still an opportunity for success when it comes to grossing a high profit.

A good example of a distribution company for my project would be the internet streaming company Netflix. Netflix have expanded significantly over the course of the past few years, by supplying and investing their own money into their own shows that they believe will take off and be a hit on their own service.Examples are House of Cards, Orange is the New Black and Narcos. With Netflix gaining more and more popularity by creating popular TV shows, and being able to buy the rights to already popular films and shows from other companies shows that Netflix is becoming a big name in the sector and films and tv shows, as they're able to generate such a huge amount of people and members signing up to their site.

By having a good distributor, such as Netflix, I'll be able to have a more of a platform and a much wider range of possible viewers to view my thriller as the amount of people who use Netflix ranges into the millions, therefore having such a high amount of people able to possibly view my thriller, would mean a higher revenue for both me as the film maker and the distribution company.
